Summer News from the Harshes

June 26th, 2023

Greetings From Roger & Robin

We have been living in the Czech Republic for over 30 years and still going strong. Elizabeth and Josiah grew up here and are entering their fourth year of biology/pre-medical school at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We are so thankful for how God has continually opened doors for us to build up His people and reach out to so many people in need. Here are some recent updates.

Prostějov, Moravia

We were invited to minister in a church in Prostějov, Moravia one Sunday in May. It was a blessed time seeing old friends and meeting many new ones.

For more than twenty-five years we have ministered in that part of Moravia. We have seen the church grow from a small group until now, they have their own meeting place. They have been able to start church plants all over the Czech Republic. They also have church plants in Slovakia.

We are so thankful for the great number of people who have come to Jesus through their ministry. It has been an honor to take part in seeing so many lives changed.

YWAM Central European Gathering

We helped to organize a Central European YWAM Gathering in Vajta, Hungary, May 31st through June 5th. There were 270 YWAMers mostly from Central Europe attending the Gathering.

Throughout the Gathering our "Eyes On Jesus" motto brought refreshment, awareness, perspective, unity, and so much more.

  • It reminds us of the scripture in Psalm 133 where we read - How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity.

  • We were guided by the "GPS" of, "Generosity, Purity, and Service".

  • At the end, Marian, who was one of the speakers at the School of Frontier Missions, did an amazing job of commissioning us out.

  • We heard and saw the breadth, depth, and width of our region from the many ministries, initiatives, and generations of people representing YWAM throughout Central Europe and beyond.

  • What a time we had praying for the nations and developing a heart for different people groups.

  • We were blessed to have our Ukrainian friends among us and to intercede for them.

  • The worship teams ushered us into the presence of Jesus, so much so, that many did not want to leave the area the last two nights.

Prague Outreach

We partnered with EI (European Initiative), June 9th through June 11th, in the Center of Prague where they did dramas and shared Jesus with everyone they came in contact with. They were a mission team of young people visiting from Mississippi. We were really touched by their love and zeal to share Jesus.

In August there are a number of different ministries and churches partnering together for the evangelistic outreaches that will take place in the city. There will be a large tent where there will be preaching, worship music, and baptisms!

Please pray for the teams as they prepare for the evangelistic outreach in August.

Going to Ukraine again June 26-29

We will be taking another trip to Ukraine bringing in resources. We will be taking nonperishable food and medical supplies.

Because we have been going into Ukraine for more than 25 years, we have a good relationship with many Pastors and Christian leaders who know where the greatest needs are.

There are many IDP (Internally Displaced People) who have no food or water and are homeless. We have many colleagues who are involved with building small prefab houses, supplying water purifiers or drilling wells to supply for these stranded people. We are working together to help supply so many critical needs.

Our biggest prayer is that war will stop and put an end to the bloodshed and death.

Israel

For 5 days in May we had an opportunity to go to Israel for our first time with a group of 19 Christians from Moravia.

We had originally planned to visit Israel for our 25th wedding anniversary in 2020 but COVID changed everything with the lockdowns that affected the whole world.

We were so thankful to be in Jerusalem. We saw the place where Jesus was crucified and the garden tomb where Jesus rose from the dead. It was so touching to see the Mount of Olives where Jesus will return.

At the Wailing Wall, Roger met a young man from Iran. The Lord led Roger to pray with him regarding an anointing much like Darius in the scriptures. Interestingly, the young man's name turned out to be Darius.

Coaching Course

In September Robin hopes to be taking a one-year Foundational Coaching Skills Course. The program is geared to increase your effectiveness as a leader through experiencing, practicing, and applying a coaching approach in your field of influence.

Coaching is an ongoing, relational partnership built around a client-driven conversational process that empowers people to achieve growth and change in areas important to them.

This will be a tool that she will use to help people to find their way through transition, whether it is from war or other life-changing experiences. It will help her in coaching staff across Central Europe. The cost of the course will be approximately an additional $2,000. If God leads you to cover some of the cost associated with the course it would be greatly appreciated.

Prayer Requests

  • We are looking to downsize our apartment to save on costs. It's just too expensive.

  • Electricity and gas have gone up 120% since the start of the war between Ukraine and Russia. We will need to pay more than $820 to cover last year's expenses.

  • We are still taking supplies into Ukraine and making visits there. Please continue to pray and give to the Ukraine account as you are able. Our Brothers and Sisters in the East still need our help

  • The Coaching Course for Robin - praying for finances to attend.

  • We have been invited to Thailand for the YWAM global leadership gathering in October. This gathering is for leaders and advisors. It would cost around $2,800 for us to attend. Please pray with us about this.

  • Pray for Elizabeth and Josiah in their last year at Calvin. They both hope to attend medical school. Josiah has received 2 early acceptances to medical schools and needs to make a decision in early July.

Thank you, Partners

We would like to express our sincere thanks to those of you who have supported us over the years. We know that the times are not easy for anyone. We partner with you in prayer for you and your family.

Many Blessings, Roger and Robin
